TRAINSPOTTING

In 1996 the Scottish movie TRAINSPOTTING was released and after several theater viewings Brian and I were hooked. The opening monologue especially spoke to us because we were heading into graduation at the end of the year and life as we knew it was going to change...

"Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed- interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing sprit- crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing you last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that?"

The movie spawned an amazing soundtrack including the song "Born Slippy" by Underworld. This became one of our favorite all time songs and to this day it will always remind me of Brian and our eternal friendship.

Here is a live version of the song:

My Wedding

My posting frequency hasn't been what it should be but its still hard to admit Brian's gone.

The fam sat down to watch a slideshow of our wedding pictures and Brian's huge melon kept popping up. For someone who "hated" to have his picture taken he sure knew how to get in front of the camera. Pictures to come...

A sad day - Walt's Hitching Post Closes After 53 Years

Man, would Brian be mad today!

Walt’s is one of our favorite restaurants of all time. It is the place for ribs. Everybody - even Jesus - agrees Walt's totally kicks Montgomery Inn's Ass. Their ribs are smoked to perfection and the sauce is perfect. Walt’s toasted rye bread is like crack.

Walt's closing is terrible. I mean up there with Xavier losing to OSU terrible!

Brian took my mom for lunch to Walt’s for her birthday. Somehow, he got them to provide their toasted rye bread to them (Walt’s normally only served it for dinner). They ate like eight slices apiece before their food arrived!

Brian loved Walt’s and I can clearly hear him humming with happiness while he devoured another slab.

The last time we were there was for Brian’s birthday. We ate like champs and let loose some balloons to Brian in Walt’s parking lot.

I guess like everything in life, eventually there has to be an end.  Like many things, it just does not seem right.

REVENGE OF THE NERDS

REVENGE OF THE NERDS was one of Brian's all time favorites movies and maybe his most quotable. I remember driving in his Saab one day years ago on the way to Mount Adams and he plugged in his iPod... one minute we're listening to Jay-Z and then the next would be "Are You Ready For The Sex Girls" which is a song from the movie. Brian was funny like that. You never knew what was up his sleeve.
